Nuts about Nuts: benefits of nuts

The healthy snack

When i say nuts the healthy snack I am talking about natural nuts- not roasted or salted or any other version that adds unnecessary, salts, sugars and bad fat to it.

Natural nuts are packed full of protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. I would suggest a handful of nuts a day to anyone looking for a healthy snack.

Nuts also contain the amino acid arginine. Arginine has been shown to help  overcome erectile dysfunction. SO MEN- NUTS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR NUTS. Arginine has also been found to boost immunity and lower elevated blood pressure levels.

In addition, certain nuts like pecans, walnuts and almonds contain tryptophan – another amino acid that stimulates the production of the ‘feel good’ hormone serotonin in your brain, which can help ward off depression and promote a more relaxed state.(1)

Peanuts are an excellent source of vitamins- including folate, riboflavin and niacin. All of which are essential for healthy metabolism and growth; a deficiency of them can cause muscle degredation and fatigue.

I Am not the biggest fan of peanuts, but peanut butter has to be one of my favourite things (the no added sugar kind) I like to add peanut butter either to my protein shakes if i am trying to add extra calories to my diet- or I like to stir it into my morning porridge. PeNuts about Nuts: benefits of nutsanut butter is a great way of adding extra calories to your diet, since it is high in healthy fats it is very calorie dense. (important for people who struggle to put on muscles cause they struggle to ingest enough calories)

Like peanuts, walnuts also have important benefits for your heart because of the omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids they contain. Both omega 3 and omega 6 are also needed for maintaining healthy joints and brain function.

Brazil nuts contain selenium, a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralise harmful radicals that attack healthy cells increasing the risk of certain cancers and heart disease.

Almonds (whole almonds not blanched or flacked) are another of my favourite nuts. They are packed full of dietary fibre and contain high levels of Vitamin E an important vitamin for the skin and helping maintain cell membranes. Almonds are gluten free and therefore are used  in many of the new ‘gluten free’ products you see in the super markets (almond milk is a great product and one that i advise you to try). Almonds are also a source of minerals, containing manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.

If you research each nut you will find a whole list of health benefits for each. No other natural snack provides such a wide variety of nutritional and health benefits. Try a handful of nuts a day- you’d funny-squirrel-nuts-cheeks-what-picsbe nuts not to
